ABOUT US
Polish Gemmological Society (Polskie TowarzystwoGemmologiczne - PTGem) was founded in 1988. PTGem is the national organization of Polish gemmologists. Its members are coming from ranks of scientists, hobbyists, as well as jewellery manufacturers, gem wholesalers and retailers from all over the country.
The society implements its statutory activities by way of: 1. Popularization of gemmology as scientific discipline related to precious and ornamental gemstones among Polish society. 2. Introduction of scientific methods of gemmology to diagnostic evaluation of precious and ornamental gemstones. 3. Improvements of professional and ethical qualifications among Polish gemmologists. 4. Representation of PTG members in official matters with national institutions, social organizations and other subjects. 5. Initiate and support exchange of experiences of Polish gemmologists with outside world.
Activities of PTGem central governing board are supported by regional PTGem organizations in Szczecin (Mr. Henryk Szymanowski), Poznań (Mr. Edward Rakowicz), Kraków (Mrs. Helena Pitera), Chorzów (Mr. Jacek Ożdżeński), and Białystok (Mr. Wieslaw Śliwowski).
Since 1999 PTGem is organizing scientific conventions of Polish gemmologists [Wrocław (1999), Wieliczka (2000), Kazimierz Dolny (2001), Szczawnica (2002), Św. Krzyż (2003), Szczawnica (2004), Mierki (2005)].
PTGem’s members since 1988 published several books in field of gemmology and more than 100 articles in Polish and foreign popular science periodicals: „Acta Universitatis Wratislaviensis”, „Mineralogia Polonica”, „Normalizacja”, „Polski Jubiler”, „Australian Gemmologist”, „Gems & Gemology”, „Journal of Gemmology”, „Mineralien Magazin Lapis”, „Zeitschrift der DGemG”, „Neoterm” and „Magyar Őtvős”.
PTGem is closely cooperating with several Polish universities where gemology is a subject of a scientific research among them University of Wrocław, University of Silesia, University of Poznań, and Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza in Kraków.
Since 1997 PTGem is publishing its trade periodical Polish Jeweller (Polski Jubiler) which represents amber craftsmen, gemmologists, jewellers and electroplaters.
In 2004 PTGem created in Warsaw a CENTER FOR GEMMOLOGICAL EDUCATION (Centralny Ośrodek Kształcenia Gemmologów - COKG). |
